LOS ANGELES, California — UC San Diego (6-7, 1-0) won its first official Big West Conference match. The Triton's win was also the first program win over Long Beach State (6-7, 0-1) since beginning Division I play in 2020. Bryce Pope led all scorers with 25 points and hit the game winning shot during overtime. UC San Diego had five players in double figures in the programs first official Big West match.
Joel Murray led LBSU with 22 points and four rebounds. Aboubacar Traore had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. There were 1426 in attendance of the Big West opener at the Walter Pyramid on Thursday night.
Long Beach State was up 32-29 at the half and tied at the end of regulation, but a higher free throw percentage could have prevented the loss.
