LOS ANGELES, California--Long Beach State (1-1) scored the first four points and AP No. 2 UCLA (3-0) countered with a 9-0 run. UCLA followed with a 8-0 run, answered by a 14-0 run by Long Beach State during the first half.

Long Beach State guards, Joel Murray the transfer from NCAA Division II powerhouse West Texas A&M, shot 9-of-13 with 20 points against the Bruins during the first half. Colin Slater the transfer from Tulane, shot 7-of-7 from two and 3-of-3 from the behind the arc over the course of the first half for Long Beach State. Long Beach State shot 69% from the field during the first half with making 13 of 15 field goals to close the half. UCLA led 48-45 at the half.

Long Beach State could not stay hot the entire game, giving UCLA a scare during the first half. UCLA was scorching hot during the second half, with the Bruins active and dominate on offensive boards.

The Bruins were down by as many as five during the first half. Apparently, the Bruin mystique at Pauly Pavilion kicked in with UCLA eventually coming up with the win. Unfortunately, at the end of the second half UCLA hit a triple digit score 100-79. Forward Joe Hampton was injured causing offensive problems for Long Beach State.

Johnny Juzang, scored 25 points, with a 59.2 FG %, with a career high six assists, and four rebounds. Jules Bernard was efficient with no turnovers putting up 22 points, five rebounds, and seven assists for UCLA. Joel Murray finished with 30 points and Colin Slater scored 27, respectively for Long Beach State.

Assists were key, with UCLA having 22, and Long Beach State dishing out 11. Long Beach State had 25 turnovers resulting in 38 points for the Bruins.

Former NBA great Brent Barry and MLB great Alex Rodriguez were in attendance at Pauly Pavillion.
