LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State was tied with No. 16 USC at the half, 38-38. The Beach was set to have a 3 point halftime lead before Drew Peterson's three pointer at the buzzer. Undefeated No. 16 USC, improved to (10-0) in the non conference match.
Long Beach State University, could have won with a higher 3-point shooting percentage along with a better free throw shooting percentage. USC shifted to a zone defense to end the first half with a tie. Long Beach State led by as many as 5 points early in the first half. USC turned the ball over at a high rate and committed many fouls. USC, took over in the second half with a 14-0 run and never looked back.
“They came out in the second half and we missed a couple of good looks,” Long Beach State coach Dan Monson said. “Then it snowballed and they took control of the game. We kept fighting and we had an opportunity, but they were better than us when they needed to be.” Coach Dan Monson is a three time Big West Coach of the Year and holds the best all time record for a coach at Long Beach State University.
Drew Peterson, the guard from Illinois scored 15 for USC. Isaiah Mobley had the best all around performance for USC with 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Joel Murray scored 14 points for Long Beach State and the senior from Louisiana, Colin Slater scored 12 points.
Long Beach State has lost 11 in a row to PAC-12 teams and is 0-2 against ranked teams.
