LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State defeated La Verne 93-48 at the Pyramid and secured new head coach Chris Acker's first official Division I win. However, La Verne is an NCAA Division III member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which is a great warm up match before hitting the road to square up with South Dakota State a program that also appeared in the NCAA tournament last season.
Devin Askew led LBSU and all scorers with 20 points plus five boards and five assists.
“This team right now is a lot closer to where we need to be than when we got together this summer,” Acker said. “I’m excited for what’s to come and the journey ahead. We just want to continue to get better every single day.”
La Verne's Cody Aquino scored a team high of 16 points for the Leopards.
