Long Beach State ran up and down the floor all night dominating #9 Pitt, with an 86-76 upset victory on the road. JC transfer James Ennis had quite the coming out party, putting up 19 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals! With easily one of the biggest wins in program history, the 49er Basketball program is on the rise! As the game came to an end, most mid major programs would have start celebrating, LBSU walked off the floor like they had expected to win, Long Beach State is for real this year, tonight proved it
Pitt was leading by 3 early in the half, but Long Beach State took the lead and never looked back. During the first half the 49er's zone defense played a big role in upsetting Pitt's offense. Casper Ware hit threes early and often, the 49er team offense established an outside shot presence. T.J. Robinson put up 11 points and 8 boards, with Larry Anderson scoring 12 points, pulling down 3 rebounds, and dishing 7 assists.
Long Beach State led the entire second half, Pitt got within 6 points, but each time Pitt made a run the 49ers had an answer.
Casper Ware scored a career high 28 points including 4 three point baskets, in addition to 6 assists and 2 rebounds. Pitt's loss tonight was the first on their home court since Bucknell back in 2005. The 49ers may go in to the AP 25 after this win, but a victory against San Diego State this weekend should guarantee the 49ers a spot in the top 25. Overall tonight was a great team win and surely many people now know who Long Beach State is thanks to the upset and national coverage via ESPNU!
