Tritons open Big West Conference play with 85-83 OT win over Long Beach State

​LOS ANGELES, California — UC San Diego (6-7, 1-0) won its first official Big West Conference match. The Triton's win was also the first program win over Long Beach State (6-7, 0-1) since beginning Division I play in 2020. Bryce Pope led all scorers with 25 points and hit the game winning shot during overtime. UC San Diego had five players in double figures in the programs first official Big West match. 

Joel Murray led LBSU with 22 points and four rebounds. Aboubacar Traore had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. There were 1426 in attendance of the Big West opener at the Walter Pyramid on Thursday night.

Long Beach State was up 32-29 at the half and tied at the end of regulation, but a higher free throw percentage could have prevented the loss.

Murray scores 21 as Long Beach State defeats Idaho 82-75

​LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State (6-6) is now on a three-game winning streak and defeated Idaho (5-7) 82-75 before 1114 at the Walter Pyramid on Wednesday night. Joel Murray led all scorers with 21 points and five rebound with a huge nine-point fast break advantage. Lasina Traore had another double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds and four players scored in double figures for LBSU. LBSU's bench scoring and three-point shoot percentage secured the non-conference win.

Yusef Salih led the Vandals with 18 points and two rebounds. ​Idaho had four players that scored in double figures but were out rebounded by 12 and did not shoot the ball well enough from behind the arc. 

The Wednesday night match between LBSU and Idaho was the second match between the programs. The Vandals have lost two in a row all-time.

Long Beach State routs Pacific Life 97-52

​LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State (5-6) led by 29 at the half enroute to a 45-point victory over the Pacific Life University (1-5). Pacific Life University is a private Bible Christain college located in San Dimas, California. The Warriors were up 11-4 early during the first half and after a time out LBSU went on a 24-1 run to take the lead for the rest of the match. 

The Traores both had double-doubles with five players scoring in double digits for LBSU. Aboubacar Traore put up 10 points, grabbed 15 boards, and had six assists with four steals. Lassina Traore led all scorers with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  

Ethan Galang led the Warriors with 12 points and two rebounds. ​There were 929 in attendance of the non-conference matchup at the Walter Pyramid on Monday night.


The Monday night match between LBSU and the Life Pacific University was the first meeting between the programs. The Warriors competes at the NAIA level and holds membership with the Golden State Athletics Conference.

USC 88, Long Beach State 78

LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State (4-6) was defeated on Wednesday night by the USC Trojans (8-3), 88-78. LBSU was within one point of the Trojans during the second half, but USC went on an 8-0 run at the Galen Center before 1835 in attendance. USC's Reese Dixon-Waters and Tre White both led all scorers with 20 each. 

LBSU was down by 11 at the half and had turned the ball over eight times. Long Beach State pulled down 50 rebounds total of which 22 were offensive. Four players scored in double digits for LBSU. 
Marcus Tsohonis led Long Beach State with 17 points and three steals. Aboubacar Traore had a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. 

The Wednesday night match between LBSU and the Trojans was the fourth since 2018 and USC holds a 4-0 all-time record against Long Beach State.

Sacramento State extends Long Beach State's losing streak

​LOS ANGELES, California — Joel Murray led Long Beach State (4-5) with the best all-around team performance with 21 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Marcus Tsohonis chipped in 14 points and Lassina Traore contributed 15 points and two steals for LBSU.

Zach Chappell of Sacramento State (5-5) made a bucket at the end of regulation, which resulted in the 76-74 Saturday night win against Long Beach State. LBSU came back from a nine-point defect to tie with 10 seconds to play.
​

Zach Chappell led all scorers with 25 points and five rebounds for the Hornets. The Hornets shot 13-for-28 from behind the arc and were down by as many as five points during the first half. 

​Long Beach State has now lost two games in a row on the road.

Utah Valley defeated Long Beach State, 88-78

​LOS ANGELES, California — Tobias Rotegaard led Long Beach State (4-4) with 16 points on the road loss to Utah Valley (4-4) before 1389 at the UCCU Center. Long Beach State was defeated on Saturday by Utah Valley, 88-78.

LBSU led by one at the half, but the Wolverines offensively outworked Long Beach State in the second half. 

Le'Tre Darthard led the Wolverines with 25 points. Utah Valley's Trey Woodbury had the best all-around performance with 19 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.
