LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State (1-2) lost it's home opener to Montana State (1-0) before 2,334 in attendance at the Walter Pyramid. Last season Montana State won 27 games and represented the Big Sky conference in the NCAA Tournament. The Bobcats powered their way to an early 17-6 first half lead and led by as many as 15 during the first half. Montana State led by eight points at the end of the first half and held the lead the entire second half.

"We started the game five-for-five from three and we had great looks," Montana State head coach Danny Sprinkle said. "Our shooters are going to get great looks and open up games a lot."

Senior Joel Murray led LBSU with 21 points and two assists. Aboubacar Traore added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds and the transfer from Virginia Commonwealth University Marcus Tsohopis scored 13 points.

“These games are tough,” Murray said. “We’re playing good teams. It’s not like we’re just playing anybody.”

RaeQuan Battle lead all scorers and had a career high 24 points in Montana State's 2022-2023 regular season opener.

"I loved the way our guys handled adversity," coach Sprinkle said. "Long Beach State pressed, flew around and pushed the pace. I'm super proud of our effort and how the guys were playing together and playing for each other."

UP NEXT: Long Beach State (1-2) faces University of Saint Katherine (0-1) at home on Saturday, November 19 at 4 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid, Long Beach, California. Live coverage on ESPN + & FM 88.1.

LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State (1-1) led No. 8 UCLA (2-0) by as many as six points early in the first half, however the Bruins led by double digits at the end of the first half and the entire second half of No. 8 UCLA's non-conference 93-69 win. Lassina Traore led Long Beach State with 14 points and seven rebounds. Jadon Jones and Joel Murray put up 10 points each. The Traore brothers scored 22 points total.

“In a game like that, you're going to have to take care of the ball and make them earn their points and we gave them way too many points off of our offense,” LBSU head coach Dan Monson said. “They overwhelmed us with that. They had half of their points in the first half off things we couldn't handle.”

Long Beach State turned the ball over 17 times, was outrebounded by 11, and only shot 28.6 percent from behind the arc.

“Like I said, we were just a little bit overwhelmed. We had trouble keeping them off the boards we couldn’t disrupt them. Also, defensively, they took us out of the game. Our turnovers gave them the lead, and it was pretty much downhill after that,” said Coach Monson.

No. 8 UCLA's Tyger Campell led all scorers with 18 points. The senior from Iowa joined the Bruin's 1000-point club during the Friday night win.

“I didn’t know,” Tyger Campbell said. “No one told me. I was in the huddle when I looked up and saw. It was a cool moment. It means a lot.”

Jaylen Clark racked up 16 points with seven rebounds and David Singleton scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

“I understand that nine rebounds is a career high, but that was the gameplan," said David Singleton. "I was just doing whatever it takes to get the win.”

9,811 were in attendance at Pauly Pavilion Friday night. No. 8 UCLA holds an all-time 20-1 record against Long Beach State.

“If you would have told me at any point Dave Singleton was going to lead my team in rebounding one day with nine, I would have lost that bet,” UCLA head coach Mick Cronin said. “Just a great kid with tremendous character.”

UP NEXT: Long Beach State (1-1) faces Montana State (0-1) in the home opener on Sunday, November 13 at 4 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid, Long Beach, California. Live coverage on ESPN + & FM 88.1.
