LOS ANGELES, California -- Long Beach State University expects to return each one of the Big West Conference awardees next season. All-Big West First Team, Lassina Traore an Ivory Coast national averaged 12.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, and a 53.4 FG% for the 2022-2023 season. Marcus Tsohonis averaged 14.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and a 39.0 FG% for the 2022-2023 season. The change in weather appeared to have triggered the upset loss at the Big West Conference tournament earlier this month. Aboubacar Traore averaged 10.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and a 55.3 FG% for the 2022-2023 season.

Dan Monson has led three different programs to the NCAA tournament with Long Beach State University last appearing in 2012. However, there has been "Tim Donaghy" officiating problems at the Big West Conference tournament with a major occurrence transpiring in 2022 at the Big West Conference championship, in which UC Santa Barbara was frivolously allowed to advance to the NCAA tournament in Long Beach State's rightful place an occurrence that has occurred several times over head coach Monson's career at Long Beach State.

LOS ANGELES, California -- The Mustangs lost 18 games in a row this season shocking the Big West Conference tournament with a major upset only winning one conference match against Cal State Northridge in the regular season during 2022. No. 10 Cal Poly defeated No. 7 Long Beach State (17-16, 11-9 Big West), 68-88. The Mustangs outscored LBSU 53-28 in the second half and outrebounded LBSU by 12.

“It’s a bitter way to end the year,” Coach Dan Monson said. “It was humbling for us. We felt good going into our last game and were kind of shell-shocked the way we lost it in the last minute."

Bad officiating at UC Davis caused an upset loss on the road, which led to stagnant play Tuesday night. LBSU led at the half by five with 999 in attendance at the Dollar Loan Center.

“We didn’t shoot well and were tentative on offense," Monson said. "We didn’t have any offensive rhythm and on defense, we never really stopped them.”

AJ George led LBSU scoring 14 points with two rebounds and Lassina Traore chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.

Cal Poly's Brantly Stevenson led all scorers with 28 points.
Making 11 of 22 three-point baskets ultimately led to the Mustang's win.

No. 10 Cal Poly (8-24, 1-18 Big West) faces No. 2 UC Santa Barbara (24-7, 15-5 Big West) Thursday night at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada.

LOS ANGELES, California -- Long Beach State (17-15, 11-9 Big West) fell short of a No. 6 position in the Big West Conference tournament. UC Davis (18-13, 11-8 Big West) caused 16 turnovers and had 14 offensive rebounds at University Credit Union Center before 2217 in attendance.  The upset loss cost LBSU two additional days off before the March Madness campaign officially begins. However, poor free throw shooting percentage by Long Beach State and too many fouls cost LBSU the match victory with UC Davis shooting 33-of-40 from the charity strike.

The Aggies were up by double digits midway into the second half, until Long Beach went on a 18-2 run that produced a 11-point lead. Elijah Pepper led all scorers and had a double-double with 28 points plus 10 rebounds and two free throws that led to overtime.

Lassina Traore led LBSU with a historic performance scoring 22 points and grabbing 20 boards, his 17th double-double of the season. Long Beach State had four players scorings in double figures with Aboubacar Traore also having a double-double scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 boards. Long Beach State led by double digits during the final minutes of regulation, but UC Davis had stops during overtime to slow down LBSU to pull off the upset at home. The loss equates to Long Beach State needing four wins to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

LOS ANGELES, California -- Long Beach State (17-14, 11-8) honored senior Joel Murray before the match began. Joel Murray transferred from Texas A&M and scored 2418 points total with both universities. LBSU dominated it's last home game of the season early with a 38-20 lead at the half being down by as many as 20 points. CSU Bakersfield (10-20, 6-13) had a low shooting percentage during the first half due to an accurate fastbreak offense at Walter Pyramid before 1480 in attendance.

The Roadrunners had considerable success in the second half, with a big run late in the half with solid three-point shooting from Cedquavious Hunter who led CSU Bakersfield with 17 points with three players scoring in double figures. Travis Henson put up 14 points and Antavion Cottum chipped in with 10 points.

Long Beach State had five players scorings in double figures with Lassina Traore leading all scorers with 20 points and 11 rebounds, his 16th double-double of the regular season.
