Long Beach State edges UC Davis, 75-72

LOS ANGELES, California — Lassina Traore's fourth straight double-double helped Long Beach State (12-10, 6-4) survive UC Davis (13-9, 6-4) 75-72 on Saturday afternoon. Attendance was at 1549 for Youth Day and Long Beach State now has an all-time record of 26-12 against UC Davis.

The Aggies Ty Johnson led all scorers with 32 points. Tough defense and a high rate of steals kept the Aggies close. Elijah Pepper also had 28 points but being outrebounded throughout the game led to the Big West loss. 

Marcus Tsohonis led Long Beach State with 21 points. Lassina Traore had 15 points and 15 rebounds and Aboubacar Traore added 10 points with seven rebounds. Tone Hunter chipped in 11 points.

Long Beach State Captures Dominant Road Win over Cal Poly, 70-52

LOS ANGELES, California — Lassina Traore's double-double with 19 points and 15 boards assisted Long Beach State (11-10, 5-4) in defeating Cal Poly (7-14, 1-8) 70-52 with 1928 in attendance at the Mott Athletics Center on Thursday night.

The Mustangs only had one scorer in double figures and shot poorly from behind the arc. Brently Stevenson led Cal Poly with 13 points and Trevon Taylor grabbed 11 rebounds and chipped in eight points.

Long Beach State had four players in double figures and had solid shooting from the charity strike and field. Tone Hunter and AJ George added 12 points each. Aboubacar Traore had the best all-around performance with 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

Long Beach State Grinds Out Tripple OT Win, 112-110

LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State (10-10, 4-4) defeated UC San Diego (7-13, 2-6) with 1039 in attendance at the Walter Pyramid with three overtime periods, 112-110. LBSU holds an all-time 3-1 record over UC San Diego.

Marcus Tsohonis led all scorers with 46 points. Lassina Traore had another double-double with 14 points plus 19 rebounds and Aboubacar Traore also had a double-double with 13 points and 19 rebounds. 

Roddie Anderson III led the Tritons with 28 points and Francis Hwaokorie chipped in a double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds.

Long Beach State Golds Out Cal State Fullerton, 72-67

LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State (9-10, 3-4) came up with a big home win by outrebounding Fullerton by 20 and with stellar field goal and free throw shooting percentages. Fullerton (10-10, 4-4) had 11 team steals and 15 points off turnovers in the 72-67 loss. LBSU turned the ball over often throughout the match, which resulted in only a single digit win with 2354 in attendance at the Walter Pyramid. 

Lassina Traore had another double-double with 16 points plus 16 rebounds and Marcus Tsohonis led LBSU scorers with 17 points.

Jalen Harris led the Titans and all scorers with 20 points and three rebounds.

Hawaii defeats Long Beach State, 79-70

LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State (8-10, 2-4) fell short of a win against Hawaii (13-4, 4-1) before 5801 in attendance at the SimpliFi Arena in Big West Conference play on the road at Honolulu, Hawaii. Long Beach State trailed by three at the half, however homecourt advantage played a major factor in the road loss. LBSU was outrebounded, got into foul trouble, and shot poorly from behind the three-point arc.

Tone Hunter led Long Beach State with 18 points and Aboubacar Traore chipped in 16 points. LBSU had three players scoring in double figures and a big offensive night from the bench.  

Noel Coleman led all scorers with 25 points and Kamaka Hepa had a double-double for the Rainbow Warriors with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Long Beach State Defeats Cal Poly Pomona at home, 77-58

LOS ANGELES, California — LBSU (8-9, 2-3) had a much-needed double digit win before 1213 in attendance at the Walter Pyramid in Big West Conference play at home against Cal Poly (7-10, 1-4). Long Beach was ahead by double-digits at the half of the 77-58 win. The winning result was due to team rebounding and steals as well as a lower rate of turning over the ball.

AJ George led Long Beach State with 15 points and three steals. LBSU had four players scoring in double figures.  

Trevon Taylor led the Mustangs with 22 points and six rebounds plus four assists.

UC Irvine Defeats Long Beach State at Home

LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State (7-9, 1-3) hit a snag in Big West Conference play on the road Saturday night facing UC Irvine (10-5, 3-0). LBSU was down by double-digits at the half but scored the same number of points as UC Irvine in the second half of the 87-70 loss. LBSU had a low shooting percentage overall in all categories which led to the loss.

DJ Davis led the Anteaters with 20 points and Pierre Crockwell II dished out 10 assists. The Anteaters had three players scoring in double figures.  

Lassina Traore led all scorers and had a another double-double with 22 points plus 13 rebounds.

Long Beach State Defeats CSUN at Premier America Credit Union Arena

LOS ANGELES, California — Long Beach State (7-8, 1-2) snaped a two-game losing streak on the road against Cal State Northridge (3-11, 0-3), 84-74. LBSU led by double-digits at the half, however high field goal shooting and outrebounding resulted in the Big West Conference win at Premier America Credit Union Arena. 

The Matadors had four players scoring in double digits, but there was not a tied score or lead change for the match. Dionte Bostick led all scorers with 22 points and Fidelis Okereke had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. 

Joel Murray led Long Beach State with 20 points including eight critical free throw shots. Lassina Traore had a double-double with 15 points as well as 16 rebounds and Aboubacar Traore also had a double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds. 

Long Beach State holds a 4-3 all-time record against Cal State Northridge.

Long Beach State upset at home by UC Riverside

​LOS ANGELES, California — Jamal Hartwell II made a buzzer beater three point shot for UC Riverside (9-5, 2-0) in the upset win at the Walter Pyramid before 1143 in attendance. Long Beach State (6-8, 0-2) came up short due to low free throw shooting percentage as well as too many missed three-point shots. LBSU has now lost two Big West matches in a row that both happen to be upsets at home. The Highlander's Zyon Pullin led all scorers with 22 points and four rebounds. 

The Saturday afternoon New Year's Eve match between LBSU and UC Riverside was the 57th match between the programs. The Highlanders had lost three in a row the before New Year's Eve upset win. Long Beach State holds a (44-13) all-time record against UC Riverside. 

Joel Murray led Long Beach State with 20 points and seven rebounds. Lassina Traore had a double-double with 15 points as well as 13 rebounds and Aboubacar Traore put up nine points with five boards.
